Paul’s campaign blasts RNC over debate accommodations

An adviser to Rand Paul blasted the Republican National Committee after arriving at the site of the third GOP debate in Boulder, Colo., Tuesday only to discover the “greenroom” for Paul’s pre-debate prep was nothing more than a locker room bathroom.

Chris LaCivita, a senior campaign strategist for Paul, began tweeting a series of pictures of the Kentucky senator’s accommodations Tuesday evening compared to those assigned to front-runner Donald Trump and top-tier candidate Carly Fiorina.

LaCivita also posted a photo of an in-house movie theater where Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and his crew would gather before, during and after the debate.

According to Politico, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s team was also disturbed by the greenroom assigned to their candidate.

“This is ridiculous. We’re in a restroom,” Ken McKay, Christie’s campaign manager, reportedly said during a meeting RNC officials Tuesday. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the format for the fourth Republican debate on Nov. 10, but tensions over the accommodations soon dominated the topic of conversation.

Aides to other lower-tier candidates, namely Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, were reportedly less concerned with their candidates’ accommodations and more upset with the RNC’s refusal to adjust the format of the debate so each candidate would have an opportunity to join the main stage.

Late Tuesday evening, LaCivita tweeted a photo of Paul’s new and improved greenroom.

“Thanks for everyone at the @GOP for bending over backwards to acquire great working conditions for team Paul,” he wrote on Twitter.

The campaigns were slated to participate in a conference call with the RNC Wednesday morning, but the call was cancelled in the aftermath of #Greenroomgate.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus told Fox News Wednesday the situation had since been resolved.

“I had a beet last night with one of the campaign managers for Rand Paul. I think it’s all been resolved,” Priebus told Fox News’ Martha MacCallum.

He added, “I think we have bigger problems than worrying about greenrooms. But if they need a bigger room to be comfortably, we will make sure they get one.”
