Secret Service arrests Occupy DC protester

A man whom Occupy DC protesters said was part of their movement was arrested by the Secret Service Saturday afternoon just outside McPherson Square.

Several uniformed officers arrested the protester and then searched his tattered backpack, which contained a laptop, a cord and several items of clothing. The arrest happened right outside a Starbucks at 15th and K Streets NW around 4:30 p.m.

Secret Service spokesman Max Milien said the arrest was part of the “normal course of business” and that he had no knowledge of the arrested man being affiliated with Occupy DC.

Milien said the man had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for “failure to appear” and was taken to the 1st District of the Metropolitan Police Department for processing.
