Buehrle bests Jenks’ mark; Ozzie not impressed

Chicago White Sox reliever Bobby Jenks could only laugh. In no way did he want to see his major-league record string of 41 consecutive outs broken. He had tied that mark in 2007 — it was originally set by Giants pitcher Jim Barr in 1972 — and had hoped to see it last a while. Sorry, Bobby. Teammate Mark Buehrle took it away with his breathtaking week. A perfect game against Tampa Bay led to 5 2/3 more perfect innings against the Twins on Tuesday night before a walk with two down in the sixth inning finally ended things. Someone might want to tell manager Ozzie Guillen, though, how impressive Buehrle has been — because he wasn’t having it after his club managed to lose to Minnesota anyway, 5-3.

“He accomplished an ‘L’ next to his name when he looks at it tomorrow,” Guillen told the Chicago Sun-Times. “Call him ‘L’ Buehrle. He threw the ball like he always throws. Unfortunately, our offense is still quiet.”
