TCU eastbound and Mountain West down

Yes, the same Texas Christian University that is based in Fort Worth — longitudinally some 500 miles west of Chicago and as close to Madison Square Garden as it is to Staples Center — is the same Texas Christian University that is joining the Big East in 2012.

The Mountain West, meanwhile, is now down Utah, BYU and TCU. Must’ve been an allergic reaction to blue turf.

Let’s be clear: The media footprint argument for the Frogs’ manifest BCS destiny doesn’t have anything to do with TV ratings, only a reference to the perception of East Coast-based media members who vote in the polls. Of course, that won’t even matter after the Frogs regularly pummel their “regional” football rivals in the northeast to earn the automatic BCS berth they crave more than any sort of geographic relevancy.

Money talks, and nothing says Big East basketball like TCU and South Florida at the Garden in March.
