NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say part of a Staten Island Railway train has jumped its tracks, but no injuries have been reported.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman Kevin Ortiz says the last car of the four-car train derailed as it approached the St. George Terminal around 1:50 p.m. Thursday. The car remained upright.
Some 90 riders were aboard the train, eight of them in the derailed car. The Fire Department helped the passengers get off the train.
The 14-mile railroad is a transit backbone on Staten Island. The railway averages about 16,000 people on a weekday.
Another Staten Island Railway car derailed May 29 at the Tottenville station, after hitting a block that stops trains from rolling off the rails at a terminus. There were no passengers. The engineer and conductor suffered minor injuries.
