President Obama said Tuesday he supports House Republicans’ plan to temporarily fund the Highway Trust Fund through May 2015, but added he’d like to see more done in the coming weeks to get a long-term bill in place.
Speaking in Virginia at the Highway Research Center, Obama said the Highway Trust Fund needs to be funded now, but that a temporary fix will only create this same crisis in the coming months. He said that a temporary bill will keep construction crews on the job and will allow federal funding to continue flowing to states, but it won’t be enough.
President Obama instead touted his own $302 billion, four-year transportation plan as the right solution to the problem.
