Watch: Navy’s ultra-sleek stealth destroyer prepares for commissioning

The Navy’s futuristic DDG 1000 stealth destroyer, the Zumwalt, will be commissioned on Oct. 15 in Baltimore. The Navy recently released video of the ship leaving General Dynamics Bath Iron Works in Maine last month in preparation for the event and ahead of its arrival in its new home port of San Diego.

Now, you’re probably looking at this and thinking you’re seeing a computer-generated rendering. But we can assure you, this is real. You’ve never seen anything like this before because the clean lines and composite deckhouse are meant to give the ship a low radar signature.

Zumwalt is the first of a three-ship class, to be followed by the Michael Monsoor and Lyndon B. Johnson.
