Writing about lost technology last year, I noted how worrisome it was that today NASA would have trouble building even a Saturn V rocket, which was, once upon a time, the engine of the entire agency.Well, a friend sends along this video of an enthusiast who built his own 1:10 scale Saturn V last April. And it’s pretty awesome.

The project, headed by Steve Eves, resulted in the launch of a 36-foot, 1,600-lb replica that achieved an altitude of 4,400 feet. It’s a remarkable a story, well detailed in Rockets Magazine and Popular Mechanics. Eves is a steely-eyed missile man.
