“Why not celebrate? It’s the life. We just want to have fun.” So said Redskins defensive tackle Anthony Montgomery at the 28th birthday party for his teammate, wide receiver Santana Moss, the latest in a series of high-profile, blowout birthday bashes by local athletes.
Moss celebrated Saturday night at Pose nightclub located in the new Gaylord National Resort. His all-star lineup — from the ’Skins and around the league — included Andre Johnson, Ed Reed, Carlos Rogers, Edgerrin James and Clinton Portis. The bash even attracted a liquor sponsor in Snow Queen Vodka.

When we asked what he really wants for his birthday, Santana refused to divulge his secret desire. However, he does have a history of over-the-top birthday parties: “As a kid I would go to Disney World every year. I have some good memories.”
When we presented him with the choice of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton or John McCain as a potential party guest, Moss demurred. “No, let them stay outside,” he said. “They have their own mess to handle.”
Sinorice Moss, his younger brother and a receiver for the New York Giants, has his own party style. “I want to throw a 1940s theme party. Like Dick Tracy with the suits and everything.”
Thinking back to his own party two months ago, Redskins cornerback Byron Westbrook mused that he’d like to have a “Batman-themed party.”
Running back Ladell Betts admitted that if he threw a party he would want Michael Jackson as his guest of honor. “I can dance like him too,” he added. His teammate, cornerback Leigh Torrence, added to his VIP list. “Oh yeah, M.J., Tiger Woods and Danica [Patrick]. … I definitely want to meet Danica.”
The award for most generous gift giver goes to Colts receiver Reggie Wayne. He told us he once spent thousands of dollars on a baby cheetah for his brother. “He chose to name it Blackie. It grew and grew and grew, and it got too wild for us. It’s a lot different. It’s not like raising a dog. We like different, we like change.”
The festivities actually got started Friday night at Ibiza nightclub, with a white-themed party in a roped-off VIP area.
And on Sunday, Moss and friends enjoyed a pool party in Potomac and another late-night bash at kstreet lounge.
