Who better to call in a pinch than Princess Leia? Let us explain.
“Sex and the City” princess Sarah Jessica Parker was billed as the star attraction at an Obama fundraiser hosted by the Democratic National Committee’s Gay and Lesbian Leadership Council. But SJP bailed on the event late in the day, so organizers turned to Carrie Fisher, who’s been in town performing her one-woman show, “Wishful Drinking.” Fisher filled in admirably, we hear.
Also spotted:
-GWU alum Kerry Washington, also staying at the St. Regis. The actress appeared at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation convention, and was interviewed at a GW event Saturday by Professor Leslie Jacobson.
-Dick Cheney in Barnes & Noble in Georgetown on Saturday night. Perhaps he was trying to get his hands on a copy of “Angler,” Barton Gellman’s new book on his vice presidency.
-Rep. Corrine Brown, D-Fla., getting her nails done at the Pentagon Ctiy Mall. “I’m sure she’s ready for that bailout package now that she’s read US Weekly, got a French manicure and what looks like [the color] ‘We’ll Always have Paris’ by OPI on the toes,” said our spy.
-“CSI” actor Hill Harper at McCormick & Schmick’s F Street locale Friday for a United Negro College Fund reception.
-And you may see Lee Greenwood at the White House soon enough. President Bush nominated the author of the “Proud to Be an American” song, which seems to find its way to the airwaves during any momentous national moment, to be a member of the National Council on the Arts.
