Alligators in a moat sounds like a good idea Re: “Border security is no laughing matter,” editorial, May 12

Actually, Mr. President, I do want alligators in the moat. Piranhas and sharks, too.

Illegal immigrants take jobs away from teenagers such as my son and daughters. There is no job that Americans will not do, but they do expect to be paid for it, especially if the government mandates a minimum hourly wage.

As the citizens living along the southern boarder will attest, illegal immigrants also bring crime and violence on a scale that would constitute an act of war in any other country. No society with uncontrolled immigration can long stand. Unless we stop this flood, our nation will fall.

Lawmakers ignore heart of immigration problem

Re: “Gutless politicians are broken, not the immigration system,” May 12

Gregory Kane is wrong when he says that the U.S. immigration system is not “broken.” He arrives at this conclusion by suggesting that our politicians have been ineffectual in enforcing our laws and deporting those who violate them. This is false.

In 2003, former President George W. Bush formed the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency to address the exact concerns that Kane describes. Under President Obama’s watch, criminal filings and work-site enforcement cases from ICE have increased to record levels. The agency’s budget is now well over $6 billion, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

Arguments about border protection fail to acknowledge the real heart of the issue. It’s a shame that legislators simply ignore the forces of labor supply and demand that drive immigration. Until the United States creates a legitimate temporary work program, our immigration system will never be “fixed.”

Obama, abortion industry are co-dependent

Re: “Abortion lobby powers the Democratic money machine,” May 12

Senior political columnist Timothy P. Carney nailed the reason President Obama would rather shut down the government than reduce the billions of dollars Planned Parenthood receives. Losing the financial support of the baby-killers and thousands of volunteer campaign workers would be a serious blow to Obama’s re-election prospects.

Carney identified some of the millions in campaign contributions Obama and his fellow Democrats got from the totally immoral abortion industry and its wealthy fellow travelers, who want everyone to accept the murder of the preborn and the genocide they practice against blacks.

It is well documented that PP can’t account for $1.3 billion in federal funding. Is any of that money being returned under the radar to Democrats as political contributions?
