Top 5: Fantasy football draft blunders

There are only so many things you can control during a fantasy football draft. The rest is up to fate — and your Internet connection. Hopefully you prepared yourself, because these five mistakes are ones you didn’t want to make on draft day:

1. Stud running back syndrome » Drafted DeAngelo Williams early, huh? Good for you. But at some point, you’re going to want to have a durable, proven backup (or three) — you know, in case something (gulp) goes wrong. Jahvid Best in Round 7 was not the answer.

2. “I’ve got a feeling …” » Indisputably the worst four words you can use during a fantasy football draft — as in: “I’ve got a feeling Donovan McNabb will stay healthy and my passing game will dominate.” He won’t … and neither will you.

3. Nobody uses the Que » Of course they don’t. And your Web browser didn’t just crash with 26 seconds remaining on your selection, causing your computer to autodraft Saints kicker Garrett Hartley in the eighth round. Oh wait, it did.

4. Bounce-back sleeper pick » Look, every great athlete still has greatness in him. But some flyers aren’t worth taking. Yes, Larry Johnson still has some gas left in the tank. Yes, he once rushed for 1,700 yards in consecutive seasons. No, taking him in the sixth round wasn’t a good idea.

5. “I need a second defense” » Seriously? Why? Did you run out of backup kickers to select? Was Tim Tebow already off the draft board? This selection requires a written apology to the league commissioner.
