At least Bill Bolling knows how to play to his strengths. When we asked what Olympic event he’d most like to participate in, the not-so-svelte lieutenant governor of Virginia said, “I would want to be a sumo wrestler.”

Between laughs from his fellow Virginia Republicans, U.S. House candidate Keith Fimian shared his wish to be a decathlete. As for Senate candidate Jim Gilmore, he’d be an Olympic shooter.

The occasion was a meeting with formerRepublican presidential candidate (and Salt Lake City Olympic Committee chief) Mitt Romney at the Ritz Carlton Pentagon City.

Romney recalled hurtling down the skeleton track 20 times during the 2002 Games in an effort to get on “The Today Show,” an effort that was ultimately in vain.

Romney’s orange-red tie matched his glowing skin as he gave a speech criticizing Barack Obama’s policy ideas. He called Obama “a well-spoken individual who isn’t as well-known and lacks judgment compared to McCain.”

“We are a lot alike,” Bolling said of Romney. “Most importantly we are both tall, thin and good-looking.” The lieutenant governor also shared his great faith in the American people. “Anybody can grow up to do anything: Look at Bill Clinton.”
