President Trump made an “unwavering” commitment on Thursday to locating Robert Levinson, a former FBI agent who vanished during a visit to Iran’s Kish Island in 2007.
“Today, we mark the ten-year anniversary of the disappearance of United States citizen Robert ‘Bob’ Levinson,” White House press secretary Sean Spicer said in a statement. “The Levinson family has suffered far too much during the last decade due to the absence of Mr. Levinson, a loving father, brother, husband, grandfather, and friend to many.”
“We want him back, and we will spare no effort to achieve that goal,” Spicer said emphatically. “We will not rest until this case is resolved.”
Levinson’s son Daniel had told Fox News earlier Thursday that he is confident Trump will bring his father home by placing more pressure on Iran than either of his predecessors.
“Trump is a deal-maker who has no issue using tough language with Iran,” he said. “He can do something that two U.S. presidents haven’t done.”
The FBI has offered a $5 million reward to anyone with information that leads to Levinson’s location or safe return to the United States.
