O s Opener always must see TV

Opening Day in
Baltimore
is one of the cities most exciting and anticipated days of the year.

 

2008 is no different and the pre game show gets underway at 5a.m. on WJZ-TV 13 and then at 2p.m. Orioles fans will have two pre-game shows to choose from with MASN offering Jim Hunter and Rick Dempsey doing Orioles Xtra from the ball park and over on WJZ it will be Mark Viviano anchoring their coverage.

 

At 3p.m. MASN on WJZ with Gary Thorne, Jim Palmer and Amber Theoharis handling the O’s opener against the Rays with MASN-HD making its debut on Comcast channel 226.  All 40 MASN-HD Oriole telecasts will be seen on Comcast channel 226.  

 

It has been a big week for MASN play by play man Gary Thorne who has traveled 35,000 in nine days doing the Red Sox-A’s opening series from Tokyo for ESPN and then he did the radio last night for the Nationals-Braves opener on ESPN Radio and now he will do his third opening day game in less than a week.

 

Meanwhile Buck Martinez another part of the MASN Orioles broadcast crew has become the new Sunday Afternoon Game of the Week analyst on TBS with Chip Carey starting April 6th when the Red Sox take on the Blue Jays.    

 

Both Thorne and Martinez will continue to be a major part of the Orioles/MASN team throughout the 2008 season.

 

Orioles fans will see all 162 games this season either on MASN, MASN2, WJZ or FOX and MASN has one of the best groups of broadcasters of any regional sports networks in all of baseball. Thorne and Palmer will be the main broadcast team but Jim Hunter will fill in for Thorne who will be doing the ESPN Radio Sunday Game of the Week and Martinez will do at least 50 Orioles telecasts this season

 

Hunter and Rick Dempsey will do Orioles Xtra live from Camden Yards every weekend this season. When Hunter is filling in for Thorne popular Orioles broadcaster Tom Davis will join Dempsey on the pre and post game show.

 

On the radio side today both the Flagship station WHFS-FM 105.7 and their sister station ESPN 1300AM will start their coverage at 10a.m. and take fans all the way up to the 3p.m start time.    

 

On the radio side both WHFS-FM 105.7 the Orioles flagship station will return the popular broadcast duo of Fred Manfra and Joe Angel. Pre game and post game will once again be handled by Tom Davis and Dave Johnson. 

 

This season there will be more baseball offered on TV and alternative media than ever before.

 

For the first time in years there will be a complete national FOX Saturday Game of the Week for the entire season. The first telecast will come April 5
th with the Mets and the Braves with all games starting at 3:30p.m. 

The new TBS Sunday afternoon Game of the Week will have a definite
Baltimore sound to it. The pre game show will be Ernie Johnson, Jr. and Cal Ripken and the game broadcast team will be Chip Carry and Buck Martinez. The new Sunday games will start at 1p.m.
