By this point in American political history, certain things have become staples of the campaign process: Any White House aspirant has to head to the Iowa State Fair and sample everything from corn dogs to ice cream. And any White House aspirant would be smart to hit up the South Carolina barbecue joint Palmetto Pig if he wants to carry that state.

But if author Rory Freedman had her way, the campaign trail would be littered with more trail mix than candy corn. The author of “Skinny Bitch” was on Capitol Hill on Tuesday to promote her book, which calls for healthier living through a vegan diet.

“I get why they do it,” she told Yeas & Nays, “but it’s sad that someone has to do it to be likable.” Helping to prove her point were some “bitch-tastic” cholesterol-free brownies on hand for the event that rivaled even the best state fair food.
