Good Counsel certainly Diggs Cincinnati

Entering its game at Cincinnati national powerhouse St. Xavier, Good Counsel knew what to expect. After all, it was just three years ago that St. Xavier took apart Good Counsel’s nemesis, DeMatha, 28-7 in a nationally televised clinic.

For three quarters Sunday on ESPN, that’s exactly what Good Counsel got. But trailing in the fourth quarter, the Falcons finally got to show what their brand of football is about: speed.

Junior Stefon Diggs capped a stunning performance with a spectacular 52-yard return of an interception for touchdown. It came three plays after senior teammate Michael Jefferson returned an interception 58 yards for a score. In all, Good Counsel scored three touchdowns in a span of 4:57 to race past St. Xavier 21-6.

St. Xavier dressed 126 players for the game, but Good Counsel, ranked No. 10 in the USA Today poll, dressed the most important one — Diggs. The 6-foot, 185-pound wideout/cornerback had three interceptions, caught five passes for 91 yards, had two sacks and forced a fumble.
