Byron York writes: “Of all the Republican candidates in 2012, Santorum was the one who came closest to a position on the economy that might appeal to middle-income voters alienated by both parties.”
Philip Klein writes: “In 2012, Santorum only surged when a string of non-Mitt Romney candidates collapsed – Rep. Michele Bachman, R-Minn,; Gov. Rick Perry, R-Tex.,; Herman Cain; and Newt Gingrich.”

While Emme30 backs York’s views and says that Santorum “is for a smaller government. I feel if people will just really listen to him he can/will win! I am hoping he runs!”
Adjoran says that “the ONLY reason Santorum ‘finished second’ to Romney is he was the last man standing as a ‘Not Romney’ candidate.” And goes on to add that “Santorum lost his last election campaign by 18% as the incumbent, and to a candidate who didn’t even show up half the time for the state job he held.”
