Longtime Wyoming senator endorses Kasich

Former Wyoming Sen. Alan Simpson endorsed John Kasich for president on Wednesday, and cited the Ohio governor’s electability as a principal reason for his selection.

“I served in Congress with John. He really is the only candidate who can defeat Hillary Clinton in the general election,” Simpson said in a statement shared by the Kasich campaign. “Further, he has a proven record of experience that is wholly unknown to Ted Cruz and Donald Trump. Today, I am extremely proud to endorse Gov. Kasich and support his campaign for president.”

The former Wyoming senator’s endorsement comes after the Ohio governor got shut out of earning any of Wyoming’s delegates up for grabs at the state’s convention on Sunday. Kasich has been mathematically eliminated from earning the delegates necessary to secure the GOP nomination.

Kasich traveled to Florida on Wednesday where the Republican National Committee is holding its spring meeting. The governor will campaign in Pennsylvania on Thursday.
