WHAT: Matthews compared Republicans to a fanatical sect of Islam simply because they oppose tax increases during a severe recession. “Is the Republican Party willing to risk economic Armageddon in the name of religion?” Matthews asked. “That is the religion of no taxes. Well, the GOP has become the Wahabis of American government, willing to bring down the whole country in the service of their anti-tax ideology.” WHY IT’S DIM: As much as we appreciate Matthews’ regular readership of The Washington Examiner, he should know better than to make such dire predictions and ludicrous comparisons.
CURE: Matthews should renounce his own religion of Big Government, whose unquestioned articles of faith have caused the current debt crisis.
