Fairfax School Board officials say a decision to close Clifton Elementary would be driven by cost.
Renovating Clifton Elementary would cost roughly $35,000 per student, according to an estimate from a school board staff report. That’s about 25 percent more per student than renovations planned at other Fairfax schools.
“We’re trying to determine what’s best for the school students, but also what’s best for the school system,” said School Board member Elizabeth Bradsher.
The School Board also is considering tightening the scope of renovations at Clifton, which would lower the cost.
