Traffic still vexing Kaine

Give Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine some credit: The man can prove a point before he even walks in a room.

On Friday, he spoke at a Brookings Institution panel on transportation and infrastructure, and, as if scripted, he was late to the event. Former Treasury Secretary and fellow panelist Robert Rubin joked, “The governor is 15 minutes away, probably due to bad infrastructure.” He was exactly right. When Kaine arrived to give his speech, he announced, “Someone has got to stop that traffic!” He later added, “I have a lot of scar tissue on this topic. My comments may not be deeply thoughtful, but they are deeply felt!”

Both men, we should note, are rumored to be on Barack Obama’s short list for vice president, but Rubin told us the campaign has not contacted him. Obama “should pick someone truly in politics,” he said.

Kaine says he’s been in constant contact with the campaign. “I signed on to work with Senator Obama, and that is what I am likely to do,” he said.
