A Northern Virginia Community College student reported being sexually assaulted, and a suspect has been arrested, school officials said.
The incident took place at about 2 p.m. Monday in a stairwell in the Dawes Garage on the college’s Alexandria campus. The victim told college police that she was walking to her vehicle when a man came behind her and groped her, officials said.
On Monday night, college police saw a man matching the suspect description on the Alexandria campus and arrested him. The suspect, 21-year-old Brandon T. Veney, is not a NOVA student, officials said. He was charged with sexual battery and assault on a law enforcement officer, according to a spokeswoman with the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office.
Since similar incidents have been reported elsewhere in Northern Virginia, NOVA police have notified local jurisdictions of the arrest.
