Caps First Period Update

Tyler Sloan does it again with his second goal in as many games. He scored at 4:53 of the first on an assist from Chris Clark. The big news, though, is the injury to Mike Green. He played just four shifts in that period before leaving with an undisclosed injury. Total minutes: 2:44. Not good.

Team officials say he “may return.” Of course, that’s what was said about Alex Ovechkin on Sunday against Columbus. We’ll see. That means extra work for the other “D” if Green can’t return. Sloan moves back to his natural defense position from the wing, where he’s filling in for Eric Fehr (rib). Could be a factor tomorrow, too, when these two teams play again at Verizon Center. Those minutes started to pile up for Caps’ defense.
