Joe Biden will decide in the next few weeks if he will launch a third bid to run for president.
“He understands that he needs to make a decision relatively early in the process,” a Biden ally told CNN. “He knows he can’t wait.”
The former vice president told CNN Friday that he would be making a decision “soon,” but did not indicate when he would announce his decision. Last year, Biden said that even if he decided in early 2019 to run, he might delay a formal announcement.
“I wouldn’t announce even if I were going to run that early. It’d be too early to get started,” Biden told reporters on Election Day last November. He said that if he made a decision in early January, he would still wait until later in winter or in early spring to make a formal announcement.

Biden added that the timing of his announcement would also rely on “circumstances in the field.”
Although he has name recognition after serving alongside former President Barack Obama for eight years, Biden could face a crowded Democratic field should he decide to run.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., launched an exploratory committee last Monday, becoming the first well-known Democrat to take a formal step toward entering the 2020 race.
