January trial set for Maryland lawmaker

  • An Anne Arundel County Circuit Court judge has set the trial date for Del. Tiffany Alston, D-Prince George’s, who was indicted in September for stealing campaign funds.

     

    Judge William C. Mulford II set Alston’s trial to begin on Jan. 10,  according to state prosecutor Emmet Davitt. Alston is charged with spending $6,000 in campaign funds she collected in 2010 to pay for her wedding. She also withdrew cash from her campaign account and wrote herself checks, according to the indictment.

     

    The first-term delegate is best known for helping start an initiative to have gay marriage legalized in Maryland, then backing out before a key committee vote in the House of Delegates.
