It’s the end of the line for the Nats. An eight-game road trip ends tonight in Pittsburgh, where Washington seeks a split in the four-game series and a 4-4 record on the trip overall. A little pregame news before we get to the lineups. Outfielder Josh Willingham was named the National League’s co-player of the week (July 27th-Aug, 2nd).
Willingham, the subject of trade rumors for most of that stretch, led the league with 11 RBI while batting .435 (10-for-23) with two doubles and three homers. Last Monday, Willingham, 30, hit a pair of grand slams in a game at Milwaukee. It was just the 13th time in MLB history one player had done that – fewer even than the number of perfect games. San Francisco Giants right-handed pitcher Tim Lincecum shared the award with Willingham, who was the fourth Nats player to earn or share the award since the team moved to the District in 2005. Now for the lineups for the series finale with the Pirates.
