Evans was named the new director of athletics for D.C. Public Schools, the first black woman to head the department. She is the former head women’s basketball coach at Kentucky State University and Virginia State University, as well has the head of player development of women’s basketball program at the Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington. Evans replaces Marcus Ellis, who resigned in July 2011.
