Schumer pledges ‘bold and and dramatic change’ if Democrats win in November

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer listed sweeping changes Democrats will make if Joe Biden wins the White House and the party wins back the Senate.

“We will make healthcare affordable for all and will undo the vicious inequality of income and wealth that has plagued America for far too long, and will take strong, decisive action to combat climate change and save the planet,” Schumer said from New York City.

Schumer was among a list of party luminaries who spoke at the virtual Democratic National Convention.

The New York Democrat, who often criticizes President Trump from the Senate floor, said Biden “has the dignity, integrity, and experience to lead us out of this crisis.”

Schumer, who stood with the Statue of Liberty in the background, said Trump has “divided our country, diminished our greatness, and demeaned everything that statue represents.”

Schumer said if Democrats regain control of the Senate, a Biden presidency will pave the way for the party to make many reforms, including ending “systemic racism” in the criminal justice system and the economy, and “restore a Supreme Court that looks out for people and not corporations.”

Schumer also promised infrastructure reform, immigration reform that includes a pathway to citizenship for those here illegally, and an end to the coronavirus.

“And out of this long, national nightmare, America will finally awaken to a brighter future. And a new day,” Schumer said.
