The spot where a clerk concealed the Declaration of Independence and other iconic American documents — saving them from fires set by the British in 1812 — will be dedicated with a historical marker on Tuesday. Sorry, D.C. history buffs — it’s on the Virginia side of the Chain Bridge. State Department clerk Stephen Pleasonton hid the Declaration in an abandoned grist mill as the British marched on Washington. The next day British forces burned parts of the District, including the White House and Capitol. Arlington County Board member Jay Fisette, along with a representative from the American Foreign Service Association, plan to dedicate Pimmit Run at the Chain Bridge as a historic site at 11 a.m.
