White House: Trump considering Joe Lieberman for FBI director

President Trump is considering former Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, the 2000 Democratic nominee for vice president who is now an independent, for FBI director, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Wednesday.

Spicer told reporters on Air Force One that Trump is scheduled to meet with Lieberman later Wednesday.

The president and the Justice Department are considering at least eight candidates to replace former FBI Director James Comey, whom Trump dismissed last week.
