Voters: U.S. ‘out of control’

With the election only two weeks away, a majority of likely voters are anxious and ready for a change.

Half of likely American voters think things in the nation are “on the wrong track” and their outlook for the United States is also pessimistic for the coming several years, according to a new Politico poll.

Only 36 percent said the country is “in a good position to meet its economic and national security” issues — that means nearly three-fourths of Americans feel as though things in the U.S. are “out of control right now.”

Unlike the 2010 midterm elections, no general issue defines this year’s elections. The public is generally distressed about a handful of issues, including the economy, terrorism, healthcare, presidential management and Ebola. Fifty-three percent of those polled disapprove of Barack Obama as a president.

Both Democrats and Republicans in Congress could be in trouble this election season: 61 percent disapprove of Democrats and 70 percent disapprove of Republicans.

The poll of 840 likely voters was done via a web survey in the states and districts with the most competitively ranked Senate and House races from Oct. 3-11.
