Wednesday is Car Free Day, and thousands of people in the Washington area already have taken the pledge to “eliminate or reduce driving” that day. Approximately 1,500 cities in 40 nations worldwide take part in the event, which is designed to raise awareness of alternative modes of transportation. Locally, people signing up to participate are eligible to win prizes that include an Apple iPad, a Kona bicycle and Metro SmarTrip cards loaded with $25.
