There’s a reason word of mouth is and always will be the best form of advertising.
When Montrese Garner-Sampson popped into the model home at Staton Crossing in Anne Arundel, she encountered a woman who had bought a new house there.
“There happened to be a customer in there who was closing, and she was extremely happy and had a lot of complimentary things to say about the builder and the whole process,” she said.
Garner-Sampson, who was looking to move from her house in Glen Burnie, a little farther north in the county, was sold. In October, she became the latest resident of this 32-home community.
Set on quarter- to third-acre lots on former farmland, Staton Crossing provides eight models of houses that start at $495,900. The base model is four bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, but the houses can range from three to seven bedrooms and feature up to six bathrooms.
“It’s very quaint,” said Karen Nye, sales manager for Sturbridge Homes.
“I feel like I’m in the country, but it’s so close to everything. We’re 10 minutes from the airport, 15 minutes from Baltimore City and 20 minutes from Annapolis.”
The houses primarily are colonials, with open-floor plans. They come standard with two-car garages, but room for a third car can be added. Granite countertops and 9-foot ceilings are among the plethora of options that buyers can, and do, add.
“We have everything from finished basements with wet bars to in-law suites, which are becoming important for baby boomers,” Nye said. “For some people, a home office is very important.’
For Garner-Sampson, Staton Crossing’s location near Interstate 97 was vital. She commutes to Washington, D.C., for work, and easy access to major highways, including Route 50, was a prime selling point for her. As was the overall feel of the model and neighborhood. Count Garner-Sampson as a fan of Staton Crossing.
“The openness of the model we chose was great, our lot is perfectly situated,” she said. “It used to be farmland, and there’s still a patch of it. Everybody says ‘hi’ to each other, and I can’t wait for spring so we can all be outside and visit with each other. It’s a new community with an old-fashioned feel.”
