A Hyattsville man has been convicted of stabbing a man to death during a robbery on New Year’s Eve 2010, officials said.
David Henry Wright, 30, was convicted Wednesday of first-degree felony murder and other charges in the death of 58-year-old Ansel Donovan Whitelocke. A Prince George’s County Circuit Court jury deliberated for less than an hour before convicting him, according to the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Wright is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 29 and faces a sentence of life plus 40 years in prison.
Two co-defendants, DeMarco Williams and Verlyncia Coleman, devised a plan to rob Whitelocke, a friend of Coleman.
On New Year’s Eve 2010, Coleman and a friend went to Whitelocke’s apartment, and seconds after they left, Williams and Wright entered the residence and demanded money. Whitelocke refused to provide money immediately, and Wright and Williams stabbed him 43 times, officials said.
The robbers then fled the apartment with a Bible, jewelry and about $550.
Williams has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to 45 years behind bars. Coleman has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and was sentenced to 18 years in prison, officials said.
