NEW YORK (AP) — New York City Council officials are hosting a celebration for Eid ul-Fitr (ihd uhl FIH’-tuhr).

The event marks the conclusion of the Muslim holy period of Ramadan (RAH’-muh-dahn).

The celebration on Thursday evening is being held by Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Public Advocate Letitia James, and Council Members I. Daneek Miller and Daniel Dromm.

Miller, who’s the only Muslim member of the City Council, will serve as emcee.

It’s being held at the Surrogate’s Courthouse in Lower Manhattan.
