In a response to Judicial Watch FOIA lawsuit, a Justice Department admits in a legal brief that some of the images or video of the raid on Osama bin Laden could be disclosed with out harming national security.
The brief clarifies, however, that “post-mortem images of the dead body of the former leader of al-Qaida – would still be exempt from disclosure.”
Regardless, the possibility has greatly increased that Americans might soon be viewing photos or video from the mission to kill Osama bin Laden, although specific details are unclear.
President Obama mentions the SEAL Team 6 raid repeatedly in his stump speeches around the country, and used the narrative of the successful mission to frame his State of the Union address.
If any information is released by the Justice Department prior to the presidential election in November, it will likely be painted as an attempt to boost Obama’s re-election chances.
