Sen. Lindsey Graham expressed trust in Attorney General William Barr amid a furor on Capitol Hill over the Justice Department’s decision to intervene in Republican operative Roger Stone’s sentencing.
The South Carolina Republican tweeted out his support for Barr on Thursday shortly after an interview with the attorney general aired on ABC News. In the interview, Barr criticized President Trump for tweeting about the Justice Department, saying Trump’s social media use makes “it impossible for me to do my job.”
“President Trump, in selecting Bill Barr to be Attorney General, has done a great service to the people serving in @TheJusticeDept and our nation as a whole,” Graham wrote. “He is the right man at the right time to reform the Department and stand up for the Rule of Law. Attorney General Barr has my complete confidence.”

The Department of Justice announced on Tuesday that it would step into Stone’s case and seek a lower sentence than the prosecutors originally intended. Federal prosecutors on the case had planned to seek a prison term of up to nine years after Stone was convicted of obstruction, witness tampering, and lying to Congress last year.
On Wednesday morning, Trump congratulated the Justice Department and Barr for “taking charge of a case that was totally out of control and perhaps should not have even been brought.”
California Rep. Eric Swalwell said recently that House Democrats have not taken impeaching Trump over the Justice Department’s decision “off the table.”
