Suspect critical after officer-involved shooting in Southeast D.C.

An alleged gunman is in critical condition after a police-involved shooting near the District’s border with Prince George’s County, police said.

Shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday, Prince George’s County police received a call about a man shooting a gun in the Glassmanor area of Oxon Hill. When they got to the scene, officers saw a man with a gun and told him to put it down.

The man didn’t drop the weapon, and he and two Prince George’s County police officers exchanged gunfire. The suspect was taken to a hospital and was in critical condition, police spokesman Officer Edward Martin said Wednesday. The police officers were not injured.

D.C. police is handling the investigation because the shooting took place in the 800 Avenue of Southern Avenue in Southeast Washington.
