THE BIG NUMBERS: The Coca-Cola Co. says its second quarter profit slipped as higher costs for ingredients offset a bump in revenue.

WHAT THEY’RE DRINKING: In North America, overall sales volume grew 1 percent. Sparkling beverages — or sodas such as its flagship Coke and Sprite — were down 2 percent in North America. The drop was offset by an 8 percent increase in still beverages, such as Powerade and Smartwater.

GROWTH OVERSEAS: Global volume rose 4 percent for the quarter, driven by gains in emerging markets. Volume rose 20 percent in India, 9 percent in Russia and 7 percent in China.
