Dim Bulb: Sen. John Kerry

Who: Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass. What: Kerry, the richest member of the U.S. Senate, plans to spend $85,000 from his $2.7 million campaign chest to rent the 2,000-seat Boston Symphony Hall for a Dec. 13 gala celebrating his 25 years in the Senate.

Why it’s dim: Kerry expects fellow Bay State Democrats to pay up to $4,800 per ticket for his lavish fundraiser. Yet this summer, he docked his new 76-foot luxury yacht in neighboring Rhode Island because he was too cheap to pay up to half a million dollars in Massachusetts taxes.

Cure: Help the Massachusetts economy. Stay home on Dec. 13.
