Oh no: America is running low on bacon

The U.S. is on the brink of a national crisis worse than the debt, Obamacare, or the Supreme Court — America is running low on bacon.

Cincinnati.com reported the devastating news on Tuesday, America is at it’s lowest level of bacon reserves since 1957. Pig farmers can’t keep up with the demand and frozen pork belly inventory totaled just 17.8 million pounds, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The lack of supply has caused prices to skyrocket by 20 percent in the month of January alone.

“Today’s pig farmers are setting historic records by producing more pigs than ever,” said Rich Deaton, president of the Ohio Pork Council. Yes, that’s a real non-profit. “Yet our reserves are still depleting.”

While some experts say that a big reason has to do with the rising foreign demand, other conspiracy theorists (mostly just me) believe that devastating the bacon reserves may have been Obama’s last act as president.
