THE WALL STREET JOURNAL – WASHINGTON – Republicans and Democrats remained locked for the third day in a battle over the terms for reopening the federal government, and both sides continued to blame the other for the lack of negotiations toward a solution.
President Barack Obama, speaking at a construction company in the Washington suburbs, urged House Republicans to move legislation to reopen the entire government.

“Take a vote, stop this farce and end this shutdown right now,” Mr. Obama said in a speech that also sought to highlight the potential economic impact of a protracted fight over spending and the nation’s borrowing limit. “As reckless as a government shutdown is…an economic shutdown that results from default would be dramatically worse,” the president said.
Republicans blamed Democrats for refusing to consider revisiting the 2010 health-care law, the Affordable Care Act. “The only thing keeping the government from opening back up is the Democrats’ refusal to apply a simple principle of fairness when it comes to Obamacare,” Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) said Thursday.
