Blowing away the Windy City?

An oft-injured 38-year-old outfielder that lacks power? It’s just Manny being Manny in 2010.

Manny Ramirez has become a side-show spectacle, getting ejected for arguing a called strike after just one pitch in a pinch-hitting appearance in Sunday’s game. At least Ramirez’s last at-bat in a Dodgers’ uniform was memorable. The Chicago White Sox claimed the slugger off waivers on Monday in hopes of giving the team the jolt it needs to catch the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central race.

Ramirez is on his way to recording a career low in home runs with just eight so far this season, but the All-Star can still be productive. He has a .311 batting average and his .405 on-base percentage is higher than anyone on the White Sox roster.

And Chicago likely will use Ramirez as its designated hitter, taking away any chance of adding another unforgettable mental blunder to a career filled with them.

Chicago has given Ramirez another chance to carry a team into the playoffs. After a change of scenery in 2008, Ramirez batted .396 with 17 home runs and 53 RBI in 53 games to lead the Dodgers to the postseason.

This certainly is not the Manny of old. But if he stays healthy, Ramirez will affect the AL Central race.
