Hillary Clinton said Thursday that the Democratic presidential race is “done” and her Republican opponent is unqualified.
“I will be the nominee for my party, Chris,” Clinton told CNN’s Chris Cuomo when asked about her opponent Bernie Sanders. “That is already done, in effect. There is no way that I won’t be.”
Clinton added she was “very disturbed” by the violence of Sanders supporters at the Nevada Democratic convention but “has every confidence” that the Democratic Party will be unified as they take on Trump in November.
In 2008, Clinton conceded to Barack Obama before the Democratic National Convention, and said she hopes that Sanders will do the same.
“[Sanders] has to do his part to unify. He said the other day that he would do everything possible to defeat Donald Trump. He said he’d work seven days a day week. I take him at his word,” she added. The threat he poses to our country and democracy and economy that I certainly expect Senator Sanders to do what he said he would.”
Clinton then said Trump is unqualified to be president.
“We have seen how Donald Trump is being used to essentially be a recruiter for more people to join the cause of terrorism,” Clinton said. “So, I think if you go through many of his irresponsible, reckless, dangerous comments, it’s not just somebody saying something off the cuff. We all misstate things and may not be as careful phrasing what we say. This is a pattern, a pattern going on now for months.”
