NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Jim Langevin (LAN’-juh-vin) is pushing to highlight what he describes as harmful effects of automatic federal spending cuts on Rhode Island’s primary education.
The Democrat is scheduled to visit Forest Park Elementary School in North Kingstown on Monday, where he will visit with and read to class. He will later meet with faculty and other school workers to discuss their concerns about the impact of the spending cuts on education, particularly special education programs.

Langevin will be accompanied by school district Superintendent Phil Auger.
Langevin’s office has said seven percent of all state revenue comes from grants affected by the federal cuts. He has been visiting Rhode Island organizations to discuss the impact of the spending cuts on Rhode Island.
