AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The Travis County sheriff says dive teams have recovered the body of a deputy whose patrol car was swept away by floodwaters as she checked roadways during heavy rains this week.
The body of Senior Deputy Jessica Hollis was found Friday afternoon in Lake Austin.
The 35-year-old deputy was a seven-year Travis County Sheriff’s Office veteran. She was checking low-water crossings during storms early Thursday when she radioed to say her patrol car was being washed away in an Austin-area subdivision.
Her empty car was found a short time later but she couldn’t be found.
Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton became emotional when announcing that her body had been found, saying he was determined to “bring her home.”
