Flip open the latest issue of Elle magazine and you’ll find quite a spread: 10 of the District’s most dynamic and impressive women ranging from NBC News White House correspondent and MSNBC’s “The Daily Rundown” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie to former D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Michelle “The Reformer” Rhee. Each of the women shares a bit about her surprising strategy for success and personal style in the article titled “Lovely & Amazing: The Women in DC Power List” by Lisa DePaulo.
On strategy, former White House press secretary and FOX News political contributor Dana Perino, who DePaulo calls “The Relevant Republican” and looks gorgeous in the article’s photo, says (about her gig on FOX News) that she tries to be a voice of reason.

“I’m a cheerful conservative, which I think drives some people crazy,” Perino says in the article. “They’re sort of confounded by it.”
And political columnist and CNN “Parker Spitzer” co-host Kathleen Parker, a.k.a. “The Sparring Partner,” reveals she really isn’t a conservative at all.
“This is hard for people to accept but I’m not a Republican,” she said. “I’ve never registered as a Republican. A right of center Independent would be my preference. I don’t like parties. They’re a pox on everyone’s house as far as I’m concerned. I’m not a party player, I’m not a member of their club, and I never was.”
When it comes to style, former Federal Aviation Administration acting administrator and lobbyist Linda “The Persuader” Daschle says her black patent pumps are her signature and it turns out Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist Maureen “The BS Detector” Dowd only flies coach.
EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, Share Our Strength’s Debbie Shore, philanthropist Jaci Reid and Assistant to the President for Special Projects Stephanie Cutter also made the list.
