As of August, there are 7.3 million people enrolled through the Obamacare exchanges, a top Obama administration official said Thursday.
A House Oversight and Government Reform Committee panel was briefed on the new numbers by Marilyn Tavenner, the administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
This is the first official enrollment numbers update since April, when the open enrollment season ended.
“We’re making real and important progress,” Tavenner said.
President Obama announced in April that enrollment through Obamacare’s federal and state insurance exchanges had hit 8 million, but the number can vary month-to-month as people gain new insurance through their employers or sign up because of qualifying events, such as marriage or a job loss.
