Former Rep. Michele Bachmann predicted the U.S. would never have a “more godly, biblical president” than President Trump.
“[Trump] is highly biblical, and I would say to your listeners, we will in all likelihood never see a more godly, biblical president again in our lifetime,” Bachmann said in an interview with Christian radio show “Understanding These Times” on Saturday. “So we need to be not only praying for him, we need to support him, in my opinion, in every possible way that we can.”
Trump, who in 2016 notoriously referred to a book of the bible as “Two Corinthians” rather than “Second Corinthians” at Liberty University, a conservative evangelical institution, has attracted support from evangelical Christians. More than 80% of voters who identified as evangelical or born-again Christians cast their ballot for Trump in the 2016 election.
Additionally, Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. has said there is no need for Trump to apologize for his actions because “everyone knows his past.” During an interview in 2018, Falwell argued that Trump has changed since the “Access Hollywood” tape was recorded in 2005. The tape, which was released shortly before the 2016 election, featured Trump talking about grabbing women by their genitalia without their consent.
Falwell’s remarks were made in response to the multiple women who claim to have been involved in extramarital affairs with Trump more than a decade ago.
“I don’t think he needs to come forward. I think everyone knows his past,” Falwell told CNN’s Erin Burnett in 2018. “I’m one of the 85% or so of evangelicals who supported him. We knew about his past as a real estate mogul, as sort of a playboy, as the owner of a beauty pageant, and we supported him for one reason: because of his position on the issues.”
